01 / Overview

Miss's House (Gospođicina kuća) in central Sarajevo — a unique villa and national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina — has been restored to its original splendour. It is one of the rare examples of Austro-Hungarian period architecture in the country, its facade decorated in the sgraffito technique where drawings are engraved directly into the plaster. After reconstruction and new illumination, it is once again one of the finest buildings in the capital.

The building dates from the Austro-Hungarian period and was declared a national monument of BiH by the Commission to Preserve National Monuments in 2011. It was damaged during the siege of Sarajevo and left neglected for decades. The restoration comprised investigative works, structural rehabilitation and the delicate conservation of the sgraffito facade with full conservation care — returning the building's authentic appearance to its original detailing. The project was financed from the City of Sarajevo budget and works were completed in 2024.
